CAPTAIN James Mullineux came to Radcliffe’s aid at the double to all but ensure their Evo-Stik League survival for another season.

The big centre-back’s two goals at bottom club Ossett Albion secured a vital three points, which pushed Boro up to 17th place in the Evo-Stik Division One North table.

Mullineux headed home a Sam Grimshaw corner to open the scoring in only the fifth minute, which settled the nerves.

But the visitors let their lead slip 10 minutes before the break as goalkeeper Chris Cheetham spilled the ball and Scott Turner bundled the ball home for Ossett.

Former Radcliffe player Caldon Henson should have given Ossett the lead in the first minute of the second half but his effort went wide of the post with Cheetham beaten.

Dave Sherlock had the ball in the net for Boro in the 65th minute but his effort was ruled offside.

Matt Landregan replaced Sherlock with 15 minutes to go and had an immediate impact on the game, helping to win a corner with a mazy run that led to Boro’s winner.

Grimshaw again found Mullineux in the box and the captain made no mistake from two yards out.

Boro’s job was made a little easier as Ossett’s Wes Milnes was sent off for kicking out at Landregan with two minutes remaining.

And they hung on for all three points.
