WITH Radcliffe Borough's league safety confirmed last week, boss Danny Johnson believes he is now building a side good enough to challenge for top honours next season.

Wins over Harrogate and Ossett Town ensured the Stainton Park outfit will remain in Evo Stik Division One North, and a 0-0 stalemate against promotion hopefuls Spennymoor in their final home game of the season on Saturday means in-form Boro have picked up seven points from the last nine available.

"We were a little disappointed that we didn't win, so that shows the inroads we have made so far this season," said Johnson.

"It was a good 0-0, a real solid performance and it was our third clean sheet on the bounce, a real positive.

"Some of the football we played was excellent. At times Spennymoor couldn't deal with our play.

"Collectively we've done magnificently and we are very optimistic for the future.

"Teams are looking at Radcliffe Borough now and thinking 'that will be a tough game'.

"It gives us a good platform to build on going into the final game at Droylsden and hopefully for next season."

Boro go into Saturday's trip without injured striker Sam McMahon and Matthew Davies, who is suspended.

"We will make a few changes and look at a few different players but we will go into the game looking to give Droylsden a run for their money as we did in the last league game," added Johnson.
