RADCLIFFE Borough twice came from behind to claim another positive result in the Evo-Stik First Division North.

After the midweek win at Ossett Albion, Boro went into Saturday's game knowing it was crucial to build on that key result and they duly delivered.

The Boro started the game with early pressure on the visitors’ goal on a very damp afternoon at the Belvoir Stadium.

Midfielder Sam Crook saw his effort sail over the crossbar inside a couple of minutes after good work by Jody Banim, who was leading the line.

However, it was mid-table Witton who drew first blood with striker Robert Hopley tapping home from five yards after a shot from outside of the box from winger Joseph Newton.

Things didn’t get any easier as Mark Bainbridge was then substituted for Aaron Walters after picking up an injury.

Despite Witton going ahead so soon into the match, Radcliffe looked to challenge every loose ball in midfield, making it a very tight opening 20 minutes. Matty Davies scuffed an attempt goalwards but it never looked liked troubling Owen Evans in the visitors’ goal.

Banim’s left-footed half volley flew wide of the keepers' right-hand post as the Boro were reduced to shooting from distance as the game tightened up. Witton continued to exploit the flanks but couldn’t find the elusive second and Radcliffe equalised two minutes into the second half thanks to a stunning 25-yard drive by Davies.

The midfielder's right-footed shot thundered in off the underside of the bar and he had every right to wheel away in celebration as it seemed as though nothing would break for Boro in the first half.

Centre-back Tobias Malarkey saw his header float over the crossbar after an out-swinging corner as Witton looked to regain their advantage.

And they did eventually score when Thomas Schofield cut inside the box from the left to unleash an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net on 60 minutes.

Davies then produced another fine effort five minutes later, curling the ball in to level the scores and set up an interesting final 25 minutes.

Boro looked to take the lead for the first time in the game but Banim shot way over after good build-up play in the middle of the park.

Witton then built some late pressure but the Boro defence stood tall to earn a hard-fought point.

It was a brilliant show of character by the Boro, which had been lacking in recent weeks, and it bodes well for the final run of games.

The point edged them above Droylsden to fifth-bottom and there is now a seven-point gap between Boro and the relegation zone.
