RADCLIFFE Borough officially confirmed their place in the Evo-Stik League for another season with a 2-2 draw at home to Burscough on Tuesday night.

The point, sealed with a double from Sam McMahon either side of half time, put them 11 points clear of the First Division North drop zone, out of the reach of second-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic with three games of the season remaining.

McMahon levelled just before the break after Karl Noon had given the play-off chasing visitors the lead on 20 minutes.

And Boro's goal hero repeated the trick eight minutes after the restart, only for fifth-placed Burscough to go straight up the other end to equalise.

Despite failing to force the win, it was an impressive result for a side with little else to play for other than pride, and coming on the back of a 3-1 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Droylsden on Saturday.

McMahon also scored for Boro at the weekend, slotting home from the penalty spot on 80 minutes for a late consolation.

Assuring safety was always manager Danny Johnson's main task, on a budget that is rumoured to be one of the worst in the division.

But he always dismissed talk of relegation, confidently predicting they were capable of reaching mid-table despite occupying a spot in the bottom four for the majority of the campaign.

Things did not quite go to plan for Johnson, who has already announced his intention to step down at the end of the season, but with new chairman Paul Hilton replacing Bernard Manning Jnr at the helm, there is a renewed sense of optimism at the Belvoir Stadium.
