RADCLIFFE Borough players gave Evo-Stik First Division North champions Warrington Town a guard of honour before their match at the Belvoir Stadium on Tuesday night then very nearly spoiled their party.

Boro went into the break 1-0 up before Warrington’s class finally told in the second half as they came from behind to win 3-1.

Jody Banim put Danny Johnson’s men in front after 30 minutes, placing a low left-footed shot into the corner from 10 yards out after good work by Elliot Rokka.

The Boro striker then almost added a second five minutes later with another drilled effort that Nathan Butler, in the Warrington goal, did well to keep out with a good save at his near post.

The hosts looked the better side after the goal as Warrington surprisingly lacked the determination and swagger that had seen them crowned champions. And it looked like Johnson, who is stepping down as manager at the end of the season, would end his final home game in charge with a win.

But Warrington began to get a foothold in the game just past the hour mark.

Centre-back Daniel O’Donnell very nearly equalized with a sliced volley that went just over the bar.

He did not have to wait long to get on the scoresheet and just a couple of minutes later he powered in a close-range header from a corner.

The turn-around was complete on 75 minutes when O’Donnell got his second of the game after another set piece that saw his back-post header loop over Boro keeper Chris Cheetham into the net.

Warrington were awarded a penalty in the final minute of the game, which Ciaran Kilheeney coolly dispatched into the bottom corner.

Radcliffe had gone into the game on a high after a first-half goal from Rick Smith sealed a 1-0 win at home to Ossett Albion on Saturday.

Boro, who are 17th in the table, finish off their campaign at Farsley Celtic on Saturday.
