RADCLIFFE Borough's young side showed the inconsistency of youth this week, losing at relegation strugglers Ossett Albion on Saturday before turning over promotion chasers Bamber Bridge in midweek.

First-half goals from Ossett's James Eyles and Nicholas Matthews sealed a 2-0 win for the hosts at the weekend, ending a run of three league games without defeat in October.

But they bounced back in fine style against Bamber Bridge on Tuesday night, with Raul Correia's stunning eighth-minute strike proving a worthy winner.

Boro came through a frantic start in tact after struggling to deal with the attacking threat of the in-form visitors, for whom Stuart Vasey hit the bar in the fifth minute with a looping header.

After surviving that scare, Correia showed his power with a rocket into the bottom corner, holding off the defender before unleashing a shot that beat the visiting keeper all ends up.

Correia went on to press the Bamber Bridge defence for the remainder of the match without managing to add to his early finish.

The visitors, meanwhile, were almost gifted an equaliser in the 15th minute as a poor clearance by Elliot Rokka fell directly into the path of Chris Marlow, whose strike was well saved by the on rushing Matty Johnson.

Bridge winger Matthew Harris almost got his side back into the game after a neat run and shot, which was well blocked.

And Glen Steel’s glancing header from a set piece brushed the far post in the 37th minute.

While the visitors worked hard to find a way back into the game, Boro's players continued to press for a second goal them rather than sitting back and soaking up the pressure.

And the tactic almost worked as Rokka's powerful shot went just the wrong side of the post.

The home side were always walking a fine line, however, and Marlow almost made them pay when his low shot rebounded back off the post on the hour.

Striker Abou Sanogo once again wore the captain's armband and he did a good job of leading from the front, forcing the Bridge keeper into a fine save after nipping in behind their defence.

Frank Van Gils and Rokka were willing runners in the closing stages as Boro continually cleared their lines, searching for the forwards with every clearance rather than merely hoofing it into touch.

And Bamber Bridge were unable to find a way through as Bill Prendergast's men sealed a welcome three points to move up to 12th place in Evo-Stik First Division North.
