RADCLIFFE FC chairman Paul Hilton is looking for a new manager to raise the profile of the club after yesterday parting company with boss Joe Gibbons.

Coach Darren Finch has been put in temporary charge and is expected to be in the dugout for Saturday’s match at home to Skelmersdale United.

It is not clear if he is under consideration as a possible permanent replacement, but Hilton explained to the Radcliffe Times what kind of candidate he had in mind.

“We believe what we have done behind the scenes here at Radcliffe, in terms of the infrastructure and training facilities we have in place, as well as the squad of players Joe has helped to build, should make this club an exciting prospect for any prospective manager,” he said.

“What we want is for a man who can echo our ambition and will raise the profile of the club to where we feel it belongs.

“We want a manager with the contacts and the know-how at this level to create a winning team and push us up towards those promotion places.”

A statement released by Hilton yesterday said Gibbons had left his position as manager by mutual consent.

It followed Tuesday night’s 4-0 defeat at home to Prescot Cables, which left Boro third bottom in Evo-Stik North.

Hilton’s statement read: “It has been a very difficult start to the season on the pitch, after what had been a very positive summer off the field.

“We have worked tirelessly to redevelop the club and unfortunately performances this season have not matched the expectations of all concerned. Joe is a genuinely great guy and we wish him all the best for the future.”
