ANY hopes of a turnaround in fortunes for Radcliffe FC following Saturday’s first win of the Evo-Stik North season were quickly dashed by a horror show at home to Prescot Cables.

Manager Joe Gibbons will have asked for more of the same after his players delivered a 3-2 victory over Tadcaster Albion on Saturday.

But Boro slipped back into the form that saw them lose their opening five league games as they shipped four goals against Prescot in the opening 45 minutes on Tuesday night, slumping to a 4-0 defeat that ultimately cost Gibbons his job.

The visitors opened the scoring through Tunde Owolabi on eight minutes, and Jordan Wynne doubled their advantage from the penalty spot four minutes later after Owolabi was fouled.

Prescot piled on the misery in the 24th minute when Wynne added his second of the game, catching out Boro stopper Ryan Jones with a deft lob from 25 yards.

The visitors ended any faint hopes of a comeback with a fourth goal on the stroke of half time, Harry Cain playing in Dominic Marie to score from close range.

Boro showed some fight for their manager in the second half, but visiting keeper Marcus Burgess refused to be beaten, keeping out shots from Theo Brierley and Brendan Glackin, while Carl Peers headed over.

It was all a far cry from the spirit shown by the Boro players in Saturday’s win.

After going behind to an early Aiden Savory goal they re-grouped and once Gibbons’ men eventually levelled through Tom Owens’ 63rd-minute penalty they did not look back.

Owens put them ahead on 74 minutes before Glackin added a third three minutes later, and Boro held out for the win after Tadcaster skipper Andy Milne pulled one back in time added on.
