RADCLIFFE FC boss Jon Macken believes there is a lot more to come from his side after they extended their unbeaten run in the league to four matches.

The former Preston and Manchester City striker has seen enough in his first month as manager to believe the squad has the potential to be challenging for honours in Evo-Stik North.

After a difficult start to the campaign, when a run of six defeats in seven league games cost former boss Joe Gibbons his job, Macken has guided the club away from danger.

Boro won their first match 4-1 at home to Skelmersdale United following his appointment and have since picked up two more wins, two draws and just one defeat in the league, including a point in a 0-0 draw at Mossley on Tuesday night and a 2-1 win against Colwyn Bay last Saturday.

And as they prepare for the return fixture at Skelmersdale this weekend, Macken has simply asked for more of the same.

“The results have been good and the performances have been pleasing,” said the Boro boss. “But what really pleases me as a coach is that I believe there is a lot more to come. I can see improvement in the players already and this is just the beginning.”

Boro remain a relatively lowly 17th in the table, but are now closer to the play-off places (eight points) than the relegation zone (nine points).

Macken added: “The league is so tight we only need to string a few wins together and all of a sudden we will be looking up rather than down.

“So the potential is there, but it is a long season and it will take until maybe the end of December before things start to pan out.”
