IT was a frustrating return to Victory Park for Boro’s former Chorley men, Gerry Luczka, James Mullineux, Adam Roscoe and Eddie Stanford.

A Danny Nolan strike after just five minutes was enough to ensure back-to-back home wins for the Magpies, taking them back up to 10th in the table.

Boro were caught cold as Stuart Howson’s long ball was inadvertently flicked into Nolan’s path by Boro captain Simon Kelly, and the striker drove the ball under Lloyd Rigby into the net.

To add insult to injury Radcliffe’s current hot-shot striker Ben Wharton failed in three one-on-ones against Chorley keeper Zac Hibbert, who was in outstanding form, and Gary Sampson also missed a fine opportunity.

Despite Borough’s best efforts in attack, Zac Hibbert and the home defence remained resolute.

“I must have counted at least eight gilt-edged chances,” said Luczka, Boro’s director of football.

“We needed a goal, but we just could not score.

“These things sometimes happen in football, but it’s very frustrating when we were obviously the better side.”

At the other end, Boro were let off the hook when Chris Amadi headed narrowly wide from an Alex Porter cross, and Porter put one cross in that hit the bar. Rigby, meanwhile, made a smart save from Chris Smalley to prevent his flick going inside the near post.
