Ramsbottom United slipped out of the play-off places after being thumped 4-0 by runaway leaders Newcastle Town.
The Staffordshire juggernaut produced a superb display of finishing to condemn the Rams to a fourth successive defeat in Vodkat League Premier Division.
Two goals in five first-half minutes put Newcastle in control and they struck again twice before the interval to take an unassailable lead.
United failed to score for the third time in four games as they dropped to seventh in the table, and their hopes of returning to winning ways against Ashton Athletic on Tuesday were dashed when the game became a victim of the weather. They return to action on Saturday against St Helens Town at the Riverside followed by a trip to Silsden on Monday and Wednesday’s Bolton Hospital Cup home quarter-final clash with Bolton County.
