  • "Yes the fans know that Peter Sweeney is a great passer of the ball but this decission is for personal reasons and not a footballing issue.

We can only hope that when the loan is paid off and the transfer embargo is lifted we can sign a suitable replacement"

Sweeney tears up Bury contract

Sweeney tears up Bury contract

First published in Shakers Updates

BURY midfielder Peter Sweeney has torn up his contract and has left Gigg Lane by mutual consent.

The club confirmed on its website that the 28-year-old central-midfielder had decided to leave for personal reasons and had taken up a contract at League Two side AFC Wimbledon.

Sweeney arrived at Gigg Lane in August, 2010, and made a total of 95 appearances. He scored five times for the club, including last campaign’s goal of the season - a wonder strike at Walsall.

Youngsters Liam Boswell and Luke McCarthy have also left the club after their contracts were mutually cancelled.
