BURY have signed former Bolton Wanderers star Chris Eagles until the end of the season.

The former Bolton Wanderers ace was a free agent since leaving Charlton at the end of last season.

Eagles, aged 29, chose the Shakers ahead of a potential deal with League One rivals Coventry City where he had spent a week on trial.

As we reported online yesterday, Coventry boss Tony Mowbray revealed at his press conference that the midfielder was on his way to sign for David Flitcroft's side who are currently fourth in the table ahead of Tuesday night's trip to Bradford City.

"Someone told me he signed for Bury this morning," said Mowbray at the Monday press conference.

"So if that's the case we wish him well.

"We need to speak to him about that. I enjoyed him for a week but we wish him well at Bury.

"Maybe location may have been a factor, I don't know."

Eagles began his career with Manchester United before making his name at Turf Moor and then Wanderers.

A talented winger with a host of experience at Premiership and Championship levels, Chris has amassed a total of 345 appearances – scoring 55 goals along the way.

Shakers boss David Flitcroft said of his new signing: "We would like to welcome Chris Eagles to the football club. Chris is a player that represents what our DNA of a player is. He joins a number of players we have given an opportunity to reignite their love of football.

"Chris is an exceptional talent that needs a support structure that can help him realise his undoubted potential. We believe if we can get Chris back to his best then we will have an excellent addition to our already young and talented squad.”

The best spells of Eagles' career have come in the North West, scoring 25 goals in 144 appearances for the Clarets and 19 goals in 106 matches for Wanderers.

After leaving Bolton for Blackpool on a free transfer last November he played just seven times for the Seasiders before moving to Charlton in February.

Eagles scored twice in 15 appearances for the Addicks, 10 of those coming off the bench.
