ANDY Bishop has promised to match his goalscoring exploits in the Conference by firing the Shakers into the play-offs this season.

The former York City hitman notched 20 goals last season before making the step up in class at Gigg Lane as Chris Casper's first summer signing.

He was on target in his first appearance in a Bury shirt, a 3-1 victory over Radcliffe Borough on Tuesday night, and has set last season's total as a benchmark for the new campaign.

"As a striker you have always got to be looking for that 20 goal mark, that has always got to be your aim.

"Playing up front with Matty Tipton, I'm bound to get some chances because he creates so much. If we can both start firing on all cylinders, then there is no reason why we can't be right up there. If not the top three, then the play-offs."

Casper is slowly installing a new footballing philosophy at Gigg Lane which should see the side adopt a more attacking approach next season.

With Marc Goodfellow already on board, fellow winger David Beresford is also on trial at the club and Bishop is excited at the prospect of playing in an attack-minded side.

He said: "The gaffer wants to play football the right way, and that can only help me.

"You always need good service from your wingers and that looks like it will happen with the players we have got on board.

"If David Beresford comes in, then that will be another lad who can provide quality.

"But even if the crosses don't come in, I'm not a one dimensional forward. I can score goals from anywhere, be it inside the box or outside the box."

Former Tranmere winger Beresford has been training with the club after being released by Macclesfield Town late last season.

Casper hinted last week that he had probably added the last new name to his squad, but now admits he is tempted to bring Beresford on board.

He said: "We will wait and see. He has been around and hasn't played competitively for a couple of months, but he can still deliver a cracking ball and still has that bit of pace.

"He can beat a defender, so we are having a look at him and see where we can go from there."
