MP cannot plead a 321-year-old law

6:20am Thursday 4th February 2010

I was appalled to read (Bury Times, January 14) that Mr Chaytor and some other Members of Parliament in his position are attempting to avoid prosecution by invoking the Bill of Rights Act 1689.

Still waiting for our £2 refund from Mr Chaytor

6:20am Thursday 4th February 2010

In May 2009, during the MPs’ expenses furore, the Bury Times reported a public statement by David Chaytor that his expenses claims equated to a payment of £2 per constituent and anyone dissatisfied with this amount was welcome to write to him and he would consider reimbursement.

Many have no option but to beg

WITH reference to the letter from M A Morris (January 14) critical of the heartless attitude shown to beggars.

Stand up for your Radcliffe facilities

7:40am Thursday 4th February 2010

ALTHOUGH I live in Bury, I am a keen supporter of the campaign to save the Prestwich Longfield Suite and Radcliffe Civic Suite, both of which are under threat of closure by the controlling group on Bury Council, in order to save a comparatively small amount of the council budget.

Public toilets should be suitable for the disabled

7:40am Thursday 4th February 2010

As a supporter of the Changing Places campaign, I think it is a disgrace that Bury Metropolitan Borough Council doesn’t provide public toilets that meet the needs of local people with severe disabilities and their carers.

I won’t go to tip rubbish I pay to have collected

7:40am Thursday 4th February 2010

I disagree with the person who sent in the letter about recycling when there were no bin collections over the recent bad weather.

Tories could halt civic halls plans

7:40am Thursday 4th February 2010

Bernard Slingsby makes a good point when he states that civic halls were never intended to make money.

‘Well done’ was for the county authority

7:30am Thursday 4th February 2010

Can I please refer to the “Well done to council waste depot employee” letter in the Bury Times of January 21.

How much has council U-turn saved us?

7:30am Thursday 4th February 2010

I READ in the Bury Times (January 14), that a council spokesman tells us that in the equal pay case, that confidential discussions in good faith with offers to 900 staff to accept reduced claims, are to try to avoid further cost to the taxpayer of legal cost and that he was disappointed that it was brought out into the public arena.

We’ll never forget the ‘Voice in a million’ trip

7:20am Thursday 4th February 2010

A big thank you to all the children and staff from St John with St Mark Primary School for organising such a fabulous trip to the ‘Voice in a million’ concert at the 02 Arena.
