ELIZABETH McCORMICK (née BYRNE) Elizabeth aged 81, died at home in Rawtenstall after a fierce but unexpectedly short battle with cancer. Much loved mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandma and godmother. Born 18th December 1937, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ellen Byrne. Wife to the late Michael McCormick, sister of the late Tom and Jim Byrne and Cath Bennett. Survived by her brothers, George and Joseph, and sister Mary. Late in-laws Tony McCormick, Jack Bennett, Jean Byrne and surviving in-laws John and Verla and Kevin McCormick, Margaret McCormick, Irene, Gill and Pat Byrne. She retired from her post as primary school teacher at Guardian Angels Primary School to care for her beloved children Rachel, Dominic and Daniel and support her husband Mike in launching his engineering business. She devoted her life to the service of others, being a key member of Edie Garrett's Concert Party in the Bury and district areas, she brought joy and respite to many together with her sister Cath, great friend Mary Fish and others. She will be greatly missed by all of her extended family and friends, and her many friends at St James the Less Rawtenstall, where she took a very active role. She will be taken into St James the Less RC Church Rawtenstall at 7pm Tuesday 13th August for prayers followed by requiem mass at 12 noon on Wednesday 14th August to celebrate her wonderful life.
