FOOTBALL fans say they are still waiting for answers — eight weeks after they were locked out of a Bury match.

As many as 500 Oldham fans were turned away from the game against the Shakers at Gigg Lane on April 13 despite thousands of seats being empty.

Bury FC officials apologised and prom-ised to investigate what went wrong but are still to reveal their findings.

Oldham supporters have urged them to do so in the hope that the same thing does not happen again.

Oldham fan Ben Lavin took his four-year-old son to the match and was locked out, despite phoning the club two hours before kick-off to check seats would be available and being assured that they would be.

He said: “I’ve received no reply from Bury and it has been almost two months since the match.

“Bury are in a different division to Oldham now, but who is to say this won’t happen in future?”

Bury FC officials and police said the stand set aside for Oldham fans was full.

They claimed they could not prepare an empty stand for those locked out in time for the start of the match. But Mr Lavin argued: “I would have been more than happy to miss 10 minutes of the game while another stand was prepared rather than go home and so would everyone else who was locked out.”

Richard Atwood, of fans’ group Trust Oldham, said: “It is concerning that they haven’t showed signs of moving on the investigation they promised.

“The saddest thing is that Bury lost out on all that extra ticket-sales revenue.”

The Bury Times has received no formal response from the club, despite requests for an update on the investigation.
