BURY'S mayor had a particularly mouthwatering civic duty to perform when she opened a sweet shop.
Cllr Michelle Wiseman was invited to carry out out the function at Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe which has relocated to the town's Mill Gate centre from its previous base on The Rock.
Also taking part in the opening was Mr Scott Richardson, president of Bury Lions which organises the town's annual carnival, and has formally partnered up with the shop.
He said: "The owners, Steve and Jeanette Allen, have supported us for the last two years, but decided they wanted to do more.
"The new partnership is great for Bury Lions. The continued support, either financially for the carnival or providing hampers for raffles and even having a collection tin in the store ,will certainly help us raise lots over the coming years."
