FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a large blaze at an industrial estate in Prestwich.
Crews from Broughton, Gorton, Manchester Central, Whitefield, Salford Central and support vehicles from Stretford and Cheadle Fire Stations were called to the fire at Sedgley Park Trading Estate, in George Street at 2am today.
A number of industrial units are on fire at the estate in George Street.
Station manager Angus Robinson, said: “When firefighters arrived they found an intense fire in two of the units on the industrial estate.
“They worked very quickly to save a number of cylinders that were contained in one of the units and made the area safe so that they could start to fight the fire.
"Due to the rapid response, crew were able to gain control of the fire very quickly.
“The scene of the fire is within a residential area so I would urge people to keep their windows and doors closed.
"There are also a number of emergency vehicles moving in and around the area so please take care if travelling on foot or in the car.”
Firefighters will remain on scene for the next few hours before investigating the cause of the fire.
