TALENTED youngsters from two junior football teams have been showing off their skills on one of the most famous pitches in the world.

Players aged under 11 from Woodbank Junior FC and Techno Falcons FC were among the sides invited to take part in a tournament at the home of European Champions Barcelona in Northern Spain.

Techno Falcons was founded earlier this year and 10 youngsters from the team flew out to Catalunya for the contest.

They won three of their five matches and finished third overall in the June 27 tournament — a result the coaches were delighted with.

"They all won medals and were thrilled. But what was even more memorable was seeing the look on the lads' faces when they stepped out onto the Nou Camp pitch," said Mr McNicholas, aged 48, of Spring Street, Bury.

Woodbank, meanwhile, won both the under sevens and under 11s competitions.

The under sevens team comprised Harry Hardman, Jamie Davies, Joseph Redman, Alfie Proctor, Spencer Knight, Corbyn Murray, Joshua Milnes, Noah Lavin and Calum Warbrick.

After winning all but one of their group games, the lads won 4-1 in the semi-final against a team from Essex before winning 5-1 in the final — the highlight of which was Corbyn Murray's wonder goal, which has been watched on youTube more than 18,000 times.

The successful under 11s team featured Harry Graham Scott, Joseph Walsh, William Holden, Kian Warbrick, Conor Fay Booth, Thomas Hamer and Tom Eckersley.

After losing their first game, they bounced back and edged out the semi-final opposition on penalties before winning the final 2-0

Manager of both Woodbank sides, Kris Warbrick, said: "I am very proud of both teams for their hard work and commitment.

"It was a wonderful experience and the lads did well, playing in high temperatures."
