WATER supply has now been restored to all homes in Bury, United Utilities has said.

While the technical fault has now been resolved, all those who have been affected are advised to boil the water before using it for drinking or food preparation.

Inspectors from United Utilities discovered a leak in Ainsworth Road after visiting the area to find the source of the problem, which is affecting homes in the BL8 postcode.

The leak caused low water pressure in some areas and shut off the water supply all together in others.

Engineers arrived on site shortly after 1pm to carry out repairs.

A statement posted on the United Utilities website said:"Our team of engineers has finished repairing the leaking pipe on Ainsworth Road and the water should be starting to flow normally again.

"However it may take up to two hours for the water pressure to return to normal levels.

"We’re sorry if this has affected you and thank you for your patience.

"Because there’s been some disturbance to the pipes in your area you may notice the water is a little cloudy or discoloured, please check our discoloured water page for more information.

It is not known how many homes have been affected by the disruption.
