A BURY councillor has resigned ahead of being sentenced in court for making indecent images of children.
Simon Carter, a councillor for Tottington ward since 2012, has been convicted of 16 counts of making indecent images of children, and is due to appear at Bolton Crown Court on Friday for sentencing.
Carter, aged 53, was expelled from the Labour Party after he pleaded guilty to the offences at a previous hearing.
Cllr Mike Connolly, leader of Bury Council, said: “I can confirm that Simon Carter has today resigned from the council with immediate effect.
“He has made the correct decision, given the gravity of the offences he has been convicted of.”
