STAFF and customers at a Ramsbottom pub have helped to raise close to £2,000 for charity.

A pop up card was introduced at the Eagle and Child in Ramsbottom, asking customers to accept an extra £1 on their bill which would go towards Rotary charities.

The bright idea came from landlord Glen Duckett and ended up raising a total of £1918 which was donated to the Rotary Club of Ramsbottom.

Trevor Hoyle of Ramsbottom Rotary said: “Only the good efforts of Glen, his staff and the generosity of the customers made it possible.

“The cheque for £1918 was gratefully received by members of the Rotary Club and will be used to support local good causes.”

The scheme was used throughout December to support homeless people during the winter months, as part of the Taste of Manchester 'Streetsmart' campaign, with Eagle and Child customers raising an additional £687.00.

Glen and his customers are now supporting Lancashire Wildlife Trust to raise much needed funds to help to protect local wildlife havens and provide environmental education to children and families.

He said: “We first ran the scheme in December to support homeless people and thought why stop when so many people were happy to donate to the cause.

“I decided to choose the Ramsbottom Rotary because of the work they do locally in our community.

“I got in touch and they were happy for us to raise money for them.

“It’s good to see money going to help local causes.

“This month we are supporting Lancashire Wildlife Trust because of our ethos here, we’re a social enterprise.

“We have a large focus around helping young people and educating them.

“The trust does a lot of educational work and that’s something I’m passionate about.

“They preserve wildlife and nature while educating people who need it and I think that’s great.”
