A MASQUERADE ball raised more than £12,000 for a Bury-based cancer support charity.

The ball raised £12,391 for Sam’s Gift, a charity set up by the family of Sam Nicholls, who died aged 22, after a short battle with cancer.

More than 200 tickets were sold to the event at the Hotel Football, in Sir Matt Busby Way, on Friday, November 4. Sam’s Gift aims to support teenagers and young adults diagnosed with cancer, by creating boxes which are donated to the Youth Oncology Unit at The Christie Hospital, where Sam underwent his treatment.

Each box includes items to help patients keep hope during treatment, all inspired by Sam.

Sam’s brother, Tom, said: “That night was fantastic and we’ve had an amazing first year, raising more than £30,000 in which we have given around 100 of Journey Boxes to those teenagers and young adults that have been diagnosed with cancer at The Christie. We are now in talks with a second hospital so that we can provide them with the journey boxes, so by the end of next year we should have given out more than 500 boxes.”
