ONE person was taken to hospital after a blaze broke out at a home in Radcliffe.

The fire involved a number of items of clothing in the bedroom of a property in Borough Avenue last night.

Shortly after 7.30pm, three fire engines from Whitefield, Bury and Broughton fire stations were called to the scene.

Crews were in attendance for approximately an hour and a half and administered oxygen therapy to casualty suffering from smoke inhalation.

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed that one person, thought to be a man who is the sole occupant of the house, was taken by ambulance to Fairfield General Hospital.

One neighbour said: "I saw the man who lives there out in the garden and then the fire engines came.

"As far as we know, there was nobody seriously injured. It looked like the fire started upstairs and now you can see there is a pile of clothes in the garden that had obviously caught fire somehow."
