A BURY school is appealing for support — as it competes for vital funding for its community art charity.
Elton High School has applied to the Aviva Community Fund competition to expand its generation-spanning arts and craft charity scheme, Art to Heart.
The school wants to provide digital and iPad art, dance and music sessions to elderly participants in the community.
They hope to receive £5,000 for essential equipment, and are urging people to vote for them when voting opens at 9am on Tuesday, October 24.
Art to Heart was established in 2005 and is delivered by the school’s community arts manager, Emma Long.
It provides the school’s year seven and eight pupils, and partner primary school’s year five and six pupils, with volunteering opportunities helping elderly and disabled people in the community with arts and craft activities.
Ms Long said: “We want to enhance the lives of older people in care by enabling them to enjoy more art forms.
“In the ten years I have spent as community arts manager at Elton, it’s infectiously joyous to witness the effects our scheme has on people.”
