ONE person has been taken to hospital after a house fire in Ramsbottom.

Firefighters were called to a terraced house in Mount Street at 10.55am to a fire which started in one of the bedrooms.

Four fire crews have been sent to the home and four firefighters used a door ram to enter the property and tackle the blaze.

An ambulance and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene, which has blocked off a number of roads in the area, including Tanners Street and Rostron Road.

An eyewitness at the scene said: "There are four fire engines there, but no police cars.

“I’m stood at the end of Tanners Street and I can’t get any nearer. They have closed off the road.

“It looks like it is down Tape Street, that is where the hoses are going down.

“I hope everyone is okay. It is important that everyone looks after themselves in the community with Christmas coming up.”

One person has been taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.

A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 11.04am and there was one patient. They have been taken to Fairfield General Hospital."

No one else is believed to have been injured as a result of the fire and it is not known at this stage how the fire started.

A relief crew have been sent to the team to take over from firefighters who have been working at the scene and a salvage operation is currently taking place.
