A DRIVER has been sentenced to wear an electronic tag for eight weeks.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Mark Tracey, aged 46, of Goldfinch Drive, Bury, pleaded guilty to driving a van without a licence or insurance.

The court heard how he was caught driving a Ford Connect van on Moss Bank Way, Bolton, on March 4.

He was banned from applying for a driving licence for 12 months as well as being subjected to a 9pm to 7am curfew for eight weeks.

Tracey was also ordered to pay £170 in costs and charges.

n A THIEF who repeatedly stole meat from Marks and Spencer in Bury has been jailed for five months.

At Manchester Magistrates’ Court Dean Hodson, aged 31, of Foxglove Drive, Bury, pleaded guilty to stealing meat, worth a total of £376, from the store on four occasions between May 28 and June 6.

At the time he was subject to suspended prison sentence for using threatening behaviour.

n MAGISTRATES have handed a man a twelve week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months after he pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour and sending grossly offensive electronic communications.

Michael Long, aged 35, of Ainsworth Road, Radcliffe, pleaded guilty to committing the offences on June 11.

The court ordered Long to have treatment for alcohol addiction for six months and participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities.

He must also pay £200 in costs and charges and a restraining order was mad banning him from contacting his victim or going to Plumpton Drive, Bury.

n A MAN has been fined £120 after admitting damaging two televisions and a mirror on June 15.

At Manchester Magistrates’ Court Hamaad Ahmed, aged 20, of Wolstenholme Avenue, Bury, was also ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.

n MAGISTRATES have bound over Matthew Bell, aged 25, of Rufford Drive, Whitefield, to keep the peace for six months.

Bell admitted behaviour which caused a breach of the peace in Bury on June 18.

He will forfeit £50 is he fails to obey the court order.

n A WOMAN who assaulted a female police officer, using a coat hanger as a weapon, has been jailed for 24 weeks by Manchester magistrates.

The court heard that Cheryl Cawley, aged 27, of Scarr Avenue, Radcliffe, was on licence when she attacked the officer in front of a four-year-old child on May 18.

Cawley pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and using threatening behaviour.

She was also ordered to pay £200 in costs and charges.

n A DRINK driver has been banned from holding a driving licence for 17 months.

At Manchester Magistrates’ Court Verity Oates, aged 22, of Holme Avenue, Brandlesholme, pleaded guilty to driving a VW Golf in Hall Street, Radcliffe, on May 20 having drunk almost double the legal level of alcohol.

She was also fined £220 and ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.

n SHOPLIFTER Jake Vickers, aged 18, of no fixed address, who stole three DVDs from Morrisons in Bury, has been sentenced to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work
