A SUPERMARKET was broken into in broad daylight just six months after opening to the public.

Lidl's new 'state-of-the-art' store in Radcliffe town centre was targeted by thugs on Sunday night.

One of the front sliding glass doors was smashed through at about 6pm. Police were called to the scene.

The shop opened to the public as usual on Monday.

However, the front door of the shop has been boarded up due to the damage.

Lidl, in Dale Street, opened to the public in February this year.

It has been described by managers as 'state-of-the-art' due to its in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing and car and bicycle parks.

More details to follow.
