A MAIN road was closed off after a car left the carriageway and ended up on the pavement close to hedgerows.
Firefighters were called to Bury Bolton Road, Radcliffe, just before 1am.
The driver, thought to be in his mid-20s had escaped the vehicle uninjured.
Crew Manager Saul Hickey, from Bury Fire Station’s Green Watch, said: “We were called at 12.41am and requested the police to attend.
“The road was closed off and as there was smoke coming from the vehicle we used a hose reel and made the car, a Skoda, safe.
“The driver, a male, had extracted himself for the vehicle.”
Fire crews were on the scene for 45 minutes and left the incident with the police.
