A PRIMARY school pupil has been airlifted to hospital after a fall.
Parents arriving to pick their children up from Lowercroft Primary School, in Ashington Drive, yesterday afternoon reported seeing two air ambulances on the school's field.
A female pupil was airlifted to Alder Hey Children's Hospital with leg injuries after falling at break time.
She is believed to be recovering well.
The school's deputy headteacher, Damian Lansdale, said: "We had an accident at school and one of the children needed to be taken to hospital.
"The paramedics decided that because of the traffic at the time, it would be better to send them in an air ambulance.
"The first one did not have a doctor on board so they called for a second one."
A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to the school at 1.40pm yesterday.
"Two air ambulances attended and one took a patient to Alder Hey Children's Hospital with a leg injury.
"After the first helicopter arrived, the paramedics realised they needed a more senior clinician, which is why the second air ambulance was sent."
