A POPULAR coffee shop is set to shut this week.

The Barracks Coffee House, which is located on the former site of the Lancashire Fusiliers in Bolton Road, will close its doors for the final time on Monday.

From then on, it will be used exclusively by staff from the companies occupying the main Barracks building on the same site.

The site is home to a number of businesses, including Circle Leasing, who employ more than 180 people.

A spokesman for the businesses based on the site said the decision to close the coffee shop had 'not been taken lightly'.

They added: “The Coffee House has always been an integral part of the complex and was initially opened to provide catering services for staff only.

“There is now little room for staff to enjoy the facilities of the Coffee House. Our priority is our staff and we are proud that we have recruited more in recent years than other employers in the Bury area.

“Furthermore, we expect to employ even more members of the local community in the coming months.

“We’ve been honoured to serve the community from such a fantastic building and we are grateful for the support that each and every customer gave us.

“We’re proud of how we reflected the Barracks’ illustrious military history with the products on our menu and the photographs which we displayed on our walls.

“The cost to the public in losing access to the Coffee House is the increase in employment opportunities which have been created for the community."
