More snow is set to fall in Greater Manchester overnight, causing further disruption.

A sprinkling of the white stuff has led to school being closed, bins collections being suspended and slower journey times on the roads.

The Met Office has warned a yellow warning for ice and snow will remain in place until Friday.

They say wintry showers will fall overnight before easing by Thursday morning.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Showers falling as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow will continue overnight.

"The showers are likely to lead to ice forming on some untreated surfaces. Most areas are unlikely to see further accumulations of fresh snow but 1-2 cm is still possible in places."

People are being warned to be careful while out and about as injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are likely.

On Friday, the Met Office has warned ice could cause major disruption to rail, road and air travel while power cuts are also possible.
