HEADING out for a drink, some food or a night on the town? Here are five recently revamped pubs and bars to check out this weekend...
The Woodthorpe — Prestwich
Dating back to the mid 19th century The Woodthorpe in Bury Old Road is a pub packed with character and history.
The former mansion house underwent £500,000 worth of extensive renovations at the start of this year.
Among the changes are a new, designated dog-friendly area, extended function suite and a family dining area.
It also boasts an outdoor heated and covered terrace with a beer garden.
The pub serves a range of traditional award-winning Joseph Holt real ales and lagers, as well as wines and spirits from around the world, and home-cooked food.
Opening hours: 11am to 12am on Friday and Saturday, and 11am to 11pm on Sunday.
The Venue Bar and Club — Bury
Located in a Grade II listed building is Silver Street, The Venue is one of the latest additions to the town centre's thriving nightlife.
Formerly known as GCHQ the bar underwent a £50,000 revamp and rebrand at the end of last year.
The Venue offers a relaxed and fun atmosphere, and serves a range of cocktails, mocktails, gin and tonics, wines, beers and ciders.
Opening hours: 9pm to 4am on Friday and Saturday, and 10pm to 4am on Sunday.
The Victoria — Walshaw
Winner of the North West Parliamentary Pub of the Year 2018, The Victoria occupies a former weavers cottage built in 1815 and has been entertaining drinkers and travellers since 1860.
The pub, in Hall Street, relaunched in May 2017 following an extensive £117,000 makeover after being taken over by new owners.
After refurbishment, the pub now has a new bar area with cosy adjacent areas for drinkers and diners, alongside a 48-seater restaurant.
The Victoria offers a warm friendly environment in characterful surroundings, serving local ales, lagers, ciders, wines, spirits and food — including a popular Sunday roast.
Opening hours: 12pm to 11pm on Friday and Sunday, and 12pm to 12am on Saturday.
The Paper Mill — Pilsworth
A more recent addition to Bury's pub landscape, The Paper Mill, in Roach Bank Road, is a family friendly venue complete with a children's soft play and activity centre.
Last year the pub reopened after an extensive six-figure transformation with radically overhauled interiors and exteriors.
The pub serves Green King beers, plus lagers, ciders, wines and spirits; and a menu of modern and classic dishes and specials.
Opening hours: 12pm to 10pm daily.
Stanley's of Tottington
Located in the heart of Tottington, Stanley's is a modern bar and live music venue.
The bar occupies the former home of Capito and Cafe Turin in Market Street, and underwent a full refurbishment before reopening last month, with a new bar being installed, new flooring and walls put in, as well as a minimalist decor.
Alongside hosting live music on Fridays and Saturday evenings, Stanley's offers an extensive cocktail menu along with plenty of house wines and lagers.
Opening hours: 3pm to 1am on Friday and Saturday, and 3pm to 10pm on Sundays.
