I RECENTLY learnt that since it became illegal to leave a car engine running whilst stationary, which was seventeen years ago, only 59 motorists have been prosecuted.
A walk near any Bury school will confirm that the worst culprits are parents, dropping off or collecting their children, who seem not to care or are oblivious to the damage they are causing to the atmosphere and thus to their children’s health.
It is not apparently in the remit of traffic wardens to hand out tickets for this misdemeanour and therefore drivers remain unpunished.
I suggest this is something that needs addressing.
