SEVERAL crashes and concerns over speeding on a Radcliffe road have prompted calls for action.

The issues relate to Bury Road, where there have been three collisions in the past six months.

A vehicle was left on its roof in the middle of the road following an incident in April and a male driver had to be taken to hospital after a two-car crash in December.

A public meeting has been organised for next week to give residents the chance to raise their concerns and to discuss possible solutions.

Labour Cllr Rhyse Cathcart, who represents Radcliffe East ward, said: "There is a clear issue with the speed that cars are travelling down Bury Road.

"I have witnessed a number of these incidents where there has been substantial damage to residential properties.

"I am determined to look at what options are available in order to support the community in tackling this problem."

It is understood that there have been four emergency call-outs to crashes in Bury Road in the three years up to October 2018.

However, residents say they have witnessed three collisions in the past six months alone.

Cllr Cathcart has called the public meeting in response to concerns raised on the doorstep about the number of recent high speed collisions.

It is hoped a community action plan can be formed and council funding sought to introduce traffic calming measures.

Independent Cllr James Mason said: "I would like to see more cross-party working so that we are more effective for Radcliffe. I would be keen to work together to tackle this issue."

On April 21, a car crashed into a parked vehicle in Bury Road before overturning.

Fire crews from Bury Fire Station were called to the scene but arrived to find the white car empty and on its roof.

The impact of the collision had forced the parked car into a tree by the side of the road.

Firefighters made the area safe and the road was closed by Greater Manchester Police officers while the vehicle was recovered.

On December 20 last year, a man suffered spinal injuries after a two-vehicle crash near to the Quick Fit garage in Bury Road.

Fire crews had to cut the roof of a Mercedes to free the 58-year-old driver. He was then treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.

A public meeting will take place at Radcliffe Girls and Boys Club in Withins Avenue on Wednesday, June 26 at 7pm to give residents the chance to discuss the problems.

Residents are asked to log their attendance with Cllr Cathcart prior to the meeting by emailing r.cathcart@bury.gov.uk.
