SHOPPERS will be donning their dancing shoes at Tesco in Bury in aid of charity.

Staff who work at the Tesco store at Woodfield Retail Park, are encouraging members of the public to showcase their moves as part of a fundraiser.

Starting today, the supermarket chain is hosting a three-day festival of dance which will see a host of performances taking place.

Street dancing, a Zumba marathon and presentations by local dance schools are included in the line-up.

Staff and customers will also be encourage to join in as part of the Dance Beats initiative.

The fundraising is taking place at thousands of Tesco stores across the country to raise money for its three health charity partners, Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.

Each of the charities will have representatives on hand to help raise awareness and fundraise.

Dave Lewis, Tesco CEO, said: “Cancer, heart and circulatory diseases and diabetes touch almost every family in the UK, which is why in our centenary year we’re launching Dance Beats to support the important work of our three health charity partners. Our colleagues and customers continuously go to amazing lengths to raise millions for charity and we hope Dance Beats will be a great way to fundraise and have some fun through dancing.”

The fundraising will culminate with a 30-hour world record attempt where thousands of Tesco staff and members of the public will compete for the Guinness World Record title for the world's longest dance marathon relay at Wembley stadium.

To support Dance Beats, residents are also invited to video themselves performing the 'Pump and Slide' move, created by Strictly star Oti Mabuse, and upload it to social media. For each uploaded video, Tesco will donate £10 to the campaign, up to a maximum of £100,000.

Oti Mabuse said: "Being part of the Dance Beats campaign gives me an opportunity to not only support three wonderful charities but also share my love for dance and the health benefits a good dance session can provide."
