A MEETING has been called after St Mary's Parish Church was targeted by thieves.

Several offers have been made to help tidy the graveyard of the Radcliffe church, which has become overgrown due to the congregation being unable to meet the annual £5,000 maintenance costs.

Residents are invited to attend a meeting at the church on Saturday from 11am.

The gathering is aimed at organising the required health and safety documents for volunteers who are willing to clean up and maintain the grounds.

Team vicar Elizabeth Binns said: "We are extremely grateful that people are willing to give their time to help take care of our beautiful church and grounds, thank you for your support."

The church was targeted twice last month when thieves stole dozens of valuable York stone slabs.
