EACH week the Bury Times publishes a round-up of five of the top things taking place across the borough.

From farmers' markets to choral performances, here are our latest suggestions.

Attend ap-peel-ing family event at park

THE community is invited to an annual event that celebrates apples and orchards.

Incredible Edible Prestwich and District (IEPAD) is once again hosting Apple Day on Sunday. Visitors will descend on Philips Park in Whitefield to enjoy apple cakes, apple pancakes and pastries at the café, or buy jams and chutneys, made from locally grown apples. The free event, between 12noon-4pm, will also feature apple-themed games, and you can also bring your own apples for juicing.

Bury Times:

Murder Mystery dinner

TRUE crime fans can try their hand at solving their very own murder.

Enjoy an interactive murder mystery event at the Elizabethan Suite, where visitors meet Terence Maybeline, a well-travelled explorer.

Terence has returned from a trip to Africa with an authentic shrunken head, rumoured to be cursed.

As the villagers gather to view the rare artifact, the head is discovered missing. Chaos ensues, and a murderer is on the loose.

Actors and actresses will provide clues throughout the evening.

Tickets are £25 and include a three course dinner and an arrival drink.

They can be purchased at the suite or by calling 0161 253 5196.

Bury Times:

Try fresh local produce

FOR anyone looking to do some early Christmas shopping, there will be handmade crafts and gifts on sale at the October Farmers’ Market in Ramsbottom this weekend.

The bustling monthly market takes place on Sunday, with stallholders selling fresh food including vegetables, meat, breads and bakes. Browse the produce at Ramsbottom Civic Hall in the Market Place from 9.30am.

Bury Times:

Choir on song for cause

THE Affetside Choir will perform in a special concert to raise money for its designated charity of the year.

Visitors are invited to the Grade I listed Parish Church of St Mary in Radcliffe on Saturday for the performance, with the theme ‘popular songs’.

All proceeds will go towards St Mary’s building fund. Tickets, at £8 including pasty and peas, are available on the door.

Theme of the concert is Popular Songs.

Perhaps, in view of the difficult summer which St Mary’s has suffered, an appeal can be put in the Radcliffe and Bury Times, for the Radcliffe community to come along and support their church on Saturday night.

Tickets are not required, as patrons can pay at the door.

On a further note, work started last week on replacing all the drains surrounding the church. Which has become necessary after camera investigations showed that they were all almost totally blocked. This no doubt contributed to the devastating flood on Boxing Day 2015.

It might also go someway towards alleviating the flooding of the cellar beneath the church, which has suffered continuous flooding for many decades.

Bury Times:

Time for tea

JERICHO Methodist Church is hosting its monthly coffee morning for people of all ages to enjoy a cuppa and a chat.

There will be homemade cakes and handmade craft goods from Quilting Friends available to purchase at their event on Saturday. Visitors are invited to the Rochdale Old Road church from 10.30am.
