ONE lane of the M62 is expected to be shut for more than eight hours due to a missing manhole cover.
Highways England tweeted about the closure at about 5am today, and have since released an update to say the closure is expected to remain in place until at least mid-afternoon today.
Traffic officers are on the scene, on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 18 at Simister Island for Bury, and Junction 19 for Middleton and Heywood.
Highways England tweeted about the lane closure at about 7.30am: "The damage has been assessed and requires extensive repair. The lane closure will remain in place for some hours. Traffic is coping well."
They tweeted earlier this morning: "M62 eastbound between #J18 #Simister to #J19 #Heywood there is a lane closure because of a missing manhole cover.
"Highways England traffic officers are at scene and an area team crew is being arranged. Please drive safely approaching and driving through the location."
