A MORRIS dancing troupe is celebrating a big win from their latest championship performance.

The Radcliffe Moriscos took part in the Morris Dancing Academy (TMDA) 2019 Championships.

The troupe’s Tinies won third place in the competition, while the Senior group came away with the troupe of the year award for their age group.

Sylvia Pendlebury, the trainer for the dancers, posted on Facebook to congratulate the dancers.

She said: “Well done to each and every one of you for working so hard. We all had an amazing weekend.

“Well done to my tines [sic] coming 3rd place at Championships 2019. Well deserved after all the hard work you’ve all done.”

Ms Pendlebury works with the troupe alongside her mum, troupe principal Laura Whittle, and signed the messages on social media from the both of them.

Mrs Whittle has been involved with morris dancing for over 45 years.

Their latest competition took place between November 8 and November 11 at Pontin’s in Prestatyn, Wales.

The teams have been working very hard, practising for the competition regularly for months.

Morris dancing dates back to 1448, with this particular style of the dance emerging in the 1940s.

The dances have evolved stylistically, with typical dress changing to include pompoms too.

There are a variety of organisations for morris dancing competitions, including the North of England Morris Dancing Carnival Organisation.

The troupe meets on Monday nights from 7-9pm at he United Reformed Church Hall in Radcliffe.

Training is provided for tots (3-5), tinies (6-11), juniors (11-15), and seniors (15+).

Both novice and experienced dancers are welcome, and the troupe is always looking for more girls to join.
