A POPULAR care home resident was given a birthday to remember as she marked her 100-year milestone.

Alice Woodman celebrated her centenary birthday with a special afternoon tea party and a visit from the Mayor of Bury, Cllr Trevor Holt.

The Burrswood Care Home resident also received a card from the Queen congratulating her on the occasion, on Friday, December 6.

Liverpool-born Alice said she had been given "so many cards that she may need a bigger room in which to put them all".

Alice and her late husband Eustace's son, Peter, travelled from his home in the Isle of Man to celebrate with her.

Burrswood Care Home’s manager Kelly Buckley said: “Alice is a lovely lady and it was a great privilege to celebrate her 100 years with her and her family.

"She is such a big part of the home and everyone here at Burrswood is so pleased to be a part of such an important birthday."

The Newton Street home, run by Advinia Health Care, provides personal and nursing care for up to 125 older people and people living with dementia.
