As contestants on Channel 4's Hunted go on the run in the new series, one of the stars of the show has shared his top tips to avoid being captured.

Kayam Iqbal, a former Royal Air Force serviceman from Bury, acts as one of the hunters for the show and uses his military knowledge to track down fugitives.

He is a ground hunter who specialises in talking to friends and family of the contestants in order to gather information on their whereabouts.

Think you can outrun the hunters and evade capture? Mr Iqbal shares his top tips to survive being on the run.

1 - Ditch the internet

It's easy to be tracked if you constantly update your social media with your location, even if unintentionally, as photos can give away where you are.

Avoid contacting others so you don't give away any details.

Mr Iqbal reveals how this can be more challenging than it sounds. He said: "Staying off the radar is difficult in today's society. I think probably put yourself away from family and loved ones."

2 - Break up routine

You'll get caught if the hunters know where to look for you, so try and avoid locations you're associated with and places you frequent.

Mr Iqbal said: "Go to places that you have limited connections with. This makes it more difficult to understand individual's patterns and behaviour."

3 - Be prepared

When you're on the run anything can happen and you need to be able to cope in testing situations.

Taking the easy option may seem appealing but it could lead to your capture.

"Make sure you can fend for yourself. Prepare yourself well ahead of the show, have the right kit and mindset, be ready to sleep rough if needs be," Mr Iqbal said.

4 - Avoid using your bank account

In the new series of the show contestants begin with no money and belongings, so the temptation to sort out funds immediately is great.

Yet when you're on the run the last thing you need is a paper trail behind you.

5 - Stay private

Although it can be helpful to communicate with others about your plan and share ideas, it's best to look after yourself and involve as few people as possible, even friends and family.

"Keep the circle of knowledge about your plan small," Mr Iqbal advises.

6 - Keep Quiet

When on the run use the public to your advantage by gaining local knowledge in unfamiliar places, but do not let anyone find out your intentions.

"Don't reach out to anybody," Mr Iqbal says. "Don't tell members of the public that help you your plan as to where you are heading next or what you are doing."

7 - Stay Aware

"Be aware of technical measures." Big Brother really is watching you, especially with CCTV cameras on every street corner, facial recognition and Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology. Even though you think you're hidden, someone's probably got their eye on you.

The next episode of Hunted will be on Channel 4 on Thursday at 9pm.
