RADCLIFFE has been the hardest hit by coronavirus, according to new figures, which show how many deaths have occurred in neighbourhoods across Bury.

In Radcliffe ward 18 residents died from the virus between March 1 and May 31.

The statistics have been collated by the Office of National Statistics and plotted on a map to show the impact the coronavirus has had in the different postcode areas through the number who have died from a Covid-19 related illness.

Areas with the highest death rate:

Radcliffe 18

Prestwich Clough and Rainsough 17

Whitefield West and Park Lane 17

Whitehead Park 14

Walmersley and Limefield 14

Fairfield and Jericho 11

There were two deaths in the Ainsworth and Bradley Fold and Outwood Gate had three deaths.

Ramsbottom had seven deaths, Summerseat had five deaths, Nuttall and Tottington had seven deaths.

There have been 803 confirmed coronavirus cases in Bury.

Sarah Caul, head of mortality analysis at the Office for National Statistics, said: "Although London had some of the highest COVID-19 mortality rates in the country during March and April, it is now experiencing lower mortality rates compared with most areas.

"During May, the region with the highest age-adjusted COVID-19 mortality rate was the North East, where the rate was double that of London. The South West region continued to have the lowest mortality rate overall and during each of the last three months.

“Meanwhile, people living in more deprived areas have continued to experience COVID-19 mortality rates more than double those living in less deprived areas. General mortality rates are normally higher in more deprived areas, but COVID-19 appears to be increasing this effect.”
