COMEDIAN Jason Manford has visited a cryotherapy treatment centre in Whitefield ahead of his Soccer Aid match this Sunday.

The funnyman attended The CryoLab to undergo the treatment ahead of the game at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Following a gruelling training schedule in preparation for the charity football match, Jason has been suffering from some minor injuries and aches and pains.

It was Jason's former Scarborough co-star, actress Catherine Tyldesley, who recommended that Jason visit the clinic.

Catherine has been a regular client of The CryoLab for several months as part of her training and wellbeing regime

The CryoLab's cryotherapy chamber works by dropping down to -130°c for a three minute, fully body session. It's essentially a modern day ice bath that uses liquid nitrogen to kickstart the body into fight or flight mode, which triggers a release of epinephrine, endorphins and anti-inflammatory proteins.

Martine Levy, a cryotherapy worker at the centre in Bury Old Road, said: "Jason came in because he is doing Soccer Aid on Sunday and has been feeling a bit ruined from all the training that he has been doing.

"He felt really good after using it. The cryotherapy chamber always gets a positive response and we often get people coming back.

Jason will be starring for the Rest of the World XI in the game due to his Irish roots.

Other celebrities taking part include Olly Murs, Lee Mack, Roman Kemp, John Bishop, Joe Wicks and Santan Dave.

Former professional footballers taking part include Michael Owen, Emile Heskey, Patrice Evra and Michael Essien.

Martine added that the CryoLab clinic was trying to make the facility affordable to the mainstream public, in addition to the sporting stars who often come their way.

A three-minute session in the cryotherapy chamber costs just £35, while four sessions are priced at £99.

She added: "Until recently, it has only been used by elite athletes. All the Premier League Clubs have one now and players like Ronaldo even have one at their own home.

"But we saw the benefits of it and wanted to offer it at a cost effective price to the mainstream public."

Soccer Aid will air on ITV 1 on Sunday, September 6, with coverage beginning from 6.30pm.
