THE East Lancashire Railway has unveiled its 'Santa Specials' ahead of the festive season.

The heritage railway has had its year blighted by the coronavirus pandemic, but is keen to get customers back and enjoying themselves.

Ahead of the Christmas services they offer, the ELR has offered a glimpse into the festive treats that people can expect to be greeted with.

Upon arrival, the beautifully dressed Bury Bolton Street Station with its many Christmas trees and decorations will serve as an opener to the 80 minute journey.

A beautifully decorated train interior will accompany the chance for children to meet costumed characters as well as Santa - with a gift provided for every child.

Children will also receive a chocolate lolly, juice drink and bespoke activity pack while a mince pie and festive tipple is available for older guests.

A spokesperson for ELR said: "It's been a strange sort of year, and like most of you we are desperate to return to some kind of normality. That's why we're thrilled to announce that, as it has for over 30 years, the East Lancashire Railway is once again becoming the home of Christmas magic with the return of our legendary Santa Specials.

"While it may not be exactly the same as you remember it, our elves have been working their little pointed socks off to ensure that the atmosphere that has enchanted families year in and year out for three decades has remained intact, and that there are a couple of extra little treats to keep things fresh."

The experiences are available from November 21 to December 24.
