A BURY man found armed with scissors on at least two occasions in public has been given a suspended prison sentence by magistrates.

Fifty-one year-old David Jones was first detained by police in the Market Street area on September 16.

Jones was arrested after it was found he was carrying two pairs of scissors, Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court was told.

Prosecutors say Jones was then stopped by Greater Manchester Police six days later in Sunny Avenue, Limefield.

And on this occasion he was carrying three pairs of scissors, the court heard.

Jones, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two offences of possessing a blade in a public place.

Magistrates imposed an 18-week prison term, suspended for 12 months, concurrent for each offence.

He must take part in 25 days of rehabilitation activities with the probation service over the next year.

And magistrates also imposed a restraining order, prohibiting him from attending the Seedfield Road area for the same duration.

He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £128 victim surcharge.
