A MAJOR incident has been declared tonight after a property collapsed in Summerseat. 
 

It is understand that two people were taken to hospital, although the nature of their injuries are not known at this stage.

Emergency services are currently at East View and nearby properties are believed to have been evacuated.

It comes as residents heard an explosion in the area.

Police, fire and ambulance are currently at the scene and basing themselves at Summerseat Garden Centre. There is a large emergency service presence on East View.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We have three fire engines and two technical response teams on the scene.

Bury Council are setting up a rest centre, and gas and electric board are on the  scene. The cordon still  remains  in place with emergency set to remain throughout the evening.

👨‍🚒 Our crews are in attendance at this incident.

"We were called at 9.2opm to a collapse of property. Surrounding properties have been evacuated.

"It it too early to say what the cause is at this stage."

Leader of Bury Council Eammonn O'Brien said:"Just left the scene at East View in Summerseat, following the emergency incident earlier this evening.

My thoughts are with all those affected.
