RESIDENTS feel unsafe in on a Bury street after a petrol bomb was thrown last night in what is usually a quiet residential area.

A petrol bomb was thrown at a vehicle by two offenders in Bury last night, close to a primary school. Police say that they think it is a targeted attack.

Just before 8pm, police were called to a report of criminal damage at an address on Lea Mount Drive, Bury, near Fairfield Community Primary School.

A car has been damaged, and subsequent police enquiries have established a petrol bomb was thrown at the vehicle by two offenders, but failed to ignite.

One neighbour told the Bury Times: "I don't feel safe anymore. I definitely won't be going at night anymore.

"This is normally such a quiet area, it's full of old people, but I guess nowhere is safe nowadays."

The owner of the damaged car, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was still waiting on police to get back to her about what had happened, and didn't think it was anything serious.

Colin Braithwaite, 68, who lives one street away, added: "I was walking my dog this morning when police left the scene just before 10am - and there were crime scene investigators wearing white suits.

"Nothing like this has ever happened here before."

A GMP spokesman said: "The item has been recovered for forensic analysis. No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.

"A scene remained in place this morning after a report of a firearms discharge in the same vicinity. No evidence has yet been found in relation to this."

"Detectives are working to ascertain the circumstances of the incident but do believe it was a targeted attack."

No injuries have been reported.
