FIREFIGHTERS had to remove the roof of a BMW after it crashed into a barrier on the M66.
At around 11.45pm fire crews were called to reports that a vehicle had spun out of control and had collided with the barrier between junction two and three southbound.
A man was trapped inside the car and firefighters were able to get him out safely.
The ambulance service also attended the scene.
Watch manager Punshon said: "We attended a road traffic collision on the M66 at about 11.45pm.
"It was a vehicle which had spun off the road and collided with the crash barrier.
"We had to use cutters to release one male from the vehicle.
"We took precautions in case he had suffered any injuries.
"By the time we had cut the roof off the car it was significantly damaged."
